CDX plywood(pine plywood)
CDX pine plywood refers to CDX standard pine plywood, which is made of pine veneer.
Plywood is thin veneer that is glued and held together by connecting layers. Plywood has a strong resistance to cracking, breaking or twisting. Plywood is typically a high-strength panel used in the construction of buildings and homes that is extremely strong. CDX is probably the most readily available and affordable plywood on the market. Although the quality of CDX plywood is low, it is definitely the strongest in the construction field.
Plywood panels come in different grades/categories, designated by the letters A, B, C, and D.
As you might expect, A is the most expensive and the best quality in terms of knot count. The fewer knots, holes, and repair defects, the more expensive the plywood will be.
Grade C means that one side of the plywood surface veneer is grade C and the other side is grade D. Pine veneer on both sides. There are some flaws in Grade D, varying in size, but within the grade standards, there will not be any major flaws. Nodes are branches formed during growth. The knots are hard but will not fall off during the production and use of plywood. This means that CDX has the most knots and imperfections, making it a lower grade of plywood. Note, however, that grading is not about quality, but about the appearance of the wood, as CDX is very strong and resistant to damage. Furthermore, CDX performs tasks that require quality more than appearance.
The X stands for exposure, which is the glue used to hold the plywood together.
CDX core materials:
Usually poplar or pine veneer is used, and different types of tree species can also be configured as needed to meet the requirements of the usage standards. Everything depends on the use.
A group of veneers are usually glued perpendicularly to each other along the direction of the wood grain of adjacent layers. Usually the surface and inner layers are symmetrically arranged on both sides of the central layer or core material. Panels made from glued veneers criss-crossed in the direction of the wood grain are pressed with or without heat. The number of layers is generally an odd number, and a few are even numbers. The difference in physical and mechanical properties between vertical and horizontal directions is small.
CDX glue type:
If used for exterior purposes, for roof coverings or building crates and boxes. This CDX pine plywood needs to be more waterproof and stronger. During the production process, you can choose melamine glue or WBP glue with waterproof function. If used for interior purposes, such as making garage shelves or subflooring, melamine glue is a more economical choice.
CDX Features:
Light weight, soft, low strength, impact resistance, high stiffness, and good stability in use. Very low corrosion resistance. Holds nails and screws well and won’t break easily. Easily glues and sands. Paints, stains, and topcoats are all pretty good, but high resin content can cause problems with turpentine sealants. In the event that it absorbs water (as it is not waterproof), CDX will dry quickly and lose moisture over time and return to its original size.
The main purpose:
external use
Although CDX plywood is low-grade and less attractive in appearance, its quality is extremely durable, making it an ideal base building material for roofs. Roof sheathing is one of the most common exterior uses for CDX. It can also be used on roof cladding, walls and subflooring, shingles and roofing felt, etc.
Crate and box construction
Since CDX is one of the few more preferred options when it comes to crates and boxes. Their dimensional stability and water resistance are also a plus, as is their sturdiness.
indoor use
garage shelves
CDX plywood is very cost-effective and can be chosen for scenes where appearance requirements are not high.
subfloor
To reduce flex, the incredible strength of CDX always comes in handy. Plywood is primarily used as a subfloor over ceramic floor coverings such as kitchens and bathrooms. Its economical nature also makes it easier to obtain and plentiful.
Others suitable for interior applications such as furniture/subfloors/box carvings etc.
